CANADA HALL DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

Following our unsuccessful Lottery bid last year to fund the proposed demolition and rebuild of Canada Hall it was decided at the open meeting held in All Saints’ Church in January to canvass via a questionnaire, users’ views on a number of issues, and in particular whether we should proceed with a demolition and subsequent new build or a retain and refurbish solution.

That exercise is now complete with the clear outcome that we should not proceed with the demolition and complete new build, but should retain and refurbish the existing Canada Hall and build to the rear, or between the church and hall.

Building on that very clear mandate, the Canada Hall Implementation Group (GHIG) has subsequently drawn up, and had further developed, plans for a revised scheme to refurbish and extend the existing Canada Hall to provide:-

· Greater circulation and display space with ease of disabled access

· A link between the Church and the Hall with ramp facility for wheelchair access

· New toilet facilities

· Improved and significantly extended meeting areas

· A larger, more modern and properly-equipped kitchen

The very rough budget construction cost for the scheme is estimated to be around £200k.

Following approval earlier this month by the PCC, the next step is for these plans to be submitted to the Reigate & Banstead planning team by the end of June to allow their proper consideration ahead of their September planning meeting.

In the meantime, fundraising continues and we will shortly be organising a further local mail-shot to update all interested parties in more detail both about the new scheme and our fundraising proposals.
