CANADA HALL UPDATE
At the open meeting held in All Saints’ Church earlier this year it was agreed that the Canada Hall Redevelopment Group (CHIG) would sound out, via a questionnaire endorsed by the PCC, users’ views on a number of issues, and in particular whether we should proceed with a demolition and subsequent new build or a retain and refurbish solution.
The Questionnaire Results
That exercise has now been completed. 25 completed forms were received, 9 from individuals
and 16 from user groups (representing the vast majority of the regular user groups).
The headline results were as follows:-
· That we should not proceed with the demolition and complete new build, but should retain and refurbish the existing Canada Hall and build to the rear, or between the church and hall. Only 3 respondents suggested continuing with the original scheme and two of those were individual rather than group responses
· Of those electing to “retain & refurbish”, 8 favoured building to the rear and 9 between the church and the hall.
· There was a clear desire to link the church and hall (22 wanting a link with 15 of those saying it was either important or very important) and to utilise common facilities, particularly toilets, reception and entrance – ie all of them!
· Groups required more storage space and there was a general desire for more floor space in the hall and extra rooms; the existing kitchen was felt to be too small with more working surfaces being needed.
Next Steps
· CHIG will very shortly be submitting to PCC proposals based on these results. Rough
